2022-23 TD Amplify Cabaret Series Launches New Format Hosted by Local Music Heavyweights Sargeant X Comrade 
The 2022-23 season of the TD Amplify Cabaret series from Arts Commons Presents launches into exciting new worlds with vocalist Yolanda Sargeant and producer Evgeniy "Comrade" Bykovets, aka Sargeant x Comrade, at the helm. In a brand-new format created by Sargeant x Comrade, this season brings four retro-futuristic space-themed talk shows to the stage – think Johnny Carson at the International Space Station – starting with Mars: Second Home on November 18 & 19 in the Engineered Air Theatre. Also new this season, audiences are invited to meet the artists following each performance in a post-show lobby reception.

Back by Popular Demand! Arts Commons Brings Free, All-Ages Outdoor Performance Spectacle Squonk: Hand to Hand to Olympic Plaza This August
The unconventional, unexpected, and unforgettable Squonk Opera makes a highly anticipated return to Olympic Plaza this summer to bring joy and uninhibited play to families of all ages. Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, Squonk is a Pittsburgh-based performance art troupe known for their fun, interactive, over-the-top outdoor performances. Squonk’s latest show Hand to Hand invites audience members to control two giant purple hands, rigged like sailing ships, as the Squonk band plays their signature rock music in an all-ages experience like no other. What does the word “home” mean to you? For some it may be simple: a single location, a perfectly preserved snapshot in time, but for many it’s much more complex, and contradictory. Letters Home (That I Didn’t Want to Send) is a cabaret that turns a flattened portrayal of cultural background into a full, messy picture.
Featuring TD Incubator program participants and curated by the wildly talented TD Incubator Fellow Contra, one half of the Calgary hip-hop group Cartel Madras, this cabaret will dare to say quiet thoughts on home, family, and identity out loud from the stage. Arts Commons: Media and +15 Galleries Exhibitions Showcase New Canadians in their Artistic Practice and Emerging Local Artists from TD Incubator Program
Arts Commons media galleries, Broadcast Lab and +15 Soundscape, as well as the community collaborative +15 Galleries, unveil new exhibitions this month. Launching a new curation process, Broadcast Lab and +15 Soundscape provide a digital platform for artist experimentation and forays into new mediums by Arts Commons TD Incubator mentorship program participants. The TD Incubator program is designed to accelerate the careers of emerging interdisciplinary artists, and the media galleries play a key role in sharing their work. The +15 Galleries, including eight individual gallery spaces, begins a new partnership with Immigrant Council for the Arts (ICAI) to share the work of new Canadian artists who bring their perspectives from all over the world. Arts Commons Maintains Audience Vaccination Requirements Until Further Notice
In light of the Alberta government’s cancellation of the Restrictions Exemption Program (REP) as of February 9, 2022, Arts Commons and the resident companies – including Alberta Theatre Projects, Arts Commons Presents, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Downstage, One Yellow Rabbit Performance Theatre and Theatre Calgary – have decided to temporarily extend the Arts Commons Audience Mask and Vaccination Policy, put into effect on September 20, 2021. As a result, we will continue to require any staff member, artist, or audience member inside Arts Commons venues, including all community events and rental events, to be fully vaccinated or to present a negative COVID-19 test taken within the past 72 hours. Arts Commons, together with our partners at Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC) is thrilled with today’s City of Calgary announcement to allocate $80M towards the Arts Commons Transformation (ACT) project, as part of its Greater Downtown Plan. This commitment means ACT can proceed through design development and completion of the Phase 1 expansion. Valued at $240 million, Phase 1 involves construction of a new building expected to include three versatile, purpose-built performance venues plus connections to the existing building and supporting amenities.
