Letters Home (That I Didn’t Want to Send) is a cabaret that turns a flattened portrayal of cultural background into a full, messy picture.
Featuring TD Incubator program participants and curated by the wildly talented TD Incubator Fellow Contra, one half of the Calgary hip-hop group Cartel Madras, this cabaret will dare to say quiet thoughts on home, family, and identity out loud from the stage. Launching a new curation process, Broadcast Lab and +15 Soundscape provide a digital platform for artist experimentation and forays into new mediums by Arts Commons TD Incubator mentorship program participants. The TD Incubator program is designed to accelerate the careers of emerging interdisciplinary artists, and the media galleries play a key role in sharing their work. The +15 Galleries, including eight individual gallery spaces, begins a new partnership with Immigrant Council for the Arts (ICAI) to share the work of new Canadian artists who bring their perspectives from all over the world. Arts Commons Maintains Audience Vaccination Requirements Until Further Notice
In light of the Alberta government’s cancellation of the Restrictions Exemption Program (REP) as of February 9, 2022, Arts Commons and the resident companies – including Alberta Theatre Projects, Arts Commons Presents, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Downstage, One Yellow Rabbit Performance Theatre and Theatre Calgary – have decided to temporarily extend the Arts Commons Audience Mask and Vaccination Policy, put into effect on September 20, 2021. As a result, we will continue to require any staff member, artist, or audience member inside Arts Commons venues, including all community events and rental events, to be fully vaccinated or to present a negative COVID-19 test taken within the past 72 hours. Activating the gallery spaces at Arts Commons even amid ongoing social distancing restrictions, the spring exhibitions of the RBC Emerging Visual Artist Program are officially open - virtually. Using immersive 3D imaging technology, Arts Commons Presents is sharing the work of 31 artists featured in the Lightbox Studio, +15 Galleries (including the Education Gallery), and Window Galleries.
