Health & Safety
Arts Commons and the resident companies have updated our health and safety policies, effective April 2022.
Arts Commons supports all resident companies and/or rental partners to exercise the right to implement the health and safety requirements that are best for them. Any audience member should note that such policies may vary depending on the event and should always consult the producing company’s website and e-communications.
All restrictions for Arts Commons patrons were officially lifted on Friday April 8, 2022. View the full statement here.
On that date, Arts Commons will no longer require proof of vaccination upon entering our venues. We will continue to highly encourage attendees to wear masks while inside our building, but it is also no longer mandatory. This includes Big Secret Theatre, Engineered Air Theatre, Jack Singer Concert Hall, Martha Cohen Theatre, Max Bell Theatre, and Motel Theatre. Arts Commons staff, including Front of House and Box Office staff, will continue to be masked.
Surfaces and Air Circulation
In addition to increased frequency of routine cleaning, as recommended by Alberta Health Services, venues, high-traffic areas, and frequently touched surfaces will be cleaned and sanitized before, during, and after every event, in every venue. Energy-efficient MERV 15A air filters (used in general areas of hospitals) have been installed to optimize air quality throughout the building.
Air Sterilization
Arts Commons has implemented an Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) solution in the building. This technology provides effective air sterilization through ultraviolet germicidal lights that produce short-wavelength light that destroys the genetic material in the nucleus of cells of microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, and molds. Our UVGI system is installed in the ducts of our heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems and irradiates the small airborne particles containing microorganisms as the air flows through the return air ducts in our spaces. Treating the air at these locations also ensures that air exhausted from the building is also sterilized.
Not Feeling Well?
Arts Commons Presents has temporarily changed our refund policy for the 2021-22 season. With this new “Change of Heart” refund policy, if you have been exposed, are feeling unwell, or have simply decided that you are not comfortable attending, you may receive a full refund for any Arts Commons Presents presentation. Please note that 3rd parties that rent our facilities and resident companies may have different refund policies – ensure you check prior to purchasing.
Welcoming Schools, Students and Teachers
We are excited to welcome school and learning groups back to Arts Commons. We ask that all groups know the COVID-19 policy of their affiliate school board prior to booking a field trip to Arts Commons.
