ARTIST STATEMENT:

My artistic journey is deeply influenced by the timeless narrative of divine love stories and beliefs from Indian culture. These tales, that are shared through traditional art performances, are rich with symbolism and spiritual significance. This serves as the inspiration for my artwork. Each piece exhibited aims to capture and convey profound emotions and spiritual connections. As my art evolves, I am eager to hear your views, opinions, and suggestions. Your insights guide my creative explorations and I look forward to sharing more interpretations of love and peace from the Indian cultural contexts in the future exhibitions. ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:

Bijila Nishanth is a self-taught visual artist and fashion designer from Kerala, India. She expresses her love and admiration for age-old Indian culture, traditions and Indian classical arts and performances through her paintings, mixed media art, and crafting. In this way she shares her passion for the stories lovingly shared with her by her grandmother. 

Bijila has a diploma in Civil Engineering and used her artistic skills while previously working on planning and designing in the construction field. As an artist, Bijila is a quick learner who is always ready to experiment and accept new challenges. Her interest in fashion designing started when she was a teenager and experimented with designs and dresses herself. Now she has a good number of customers in her hometown who reach out to her to get their custom outfits for special events. Bijila has made Calgary her new home since November 2022 and lives with her chef husband and their 6-year-old princess.
