ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:
J.R. McNeil is a Canadian permanent resident and American citizen who is a performance-based dancer, actor and circus artist. Stylistically his work is highly ingrained in Authentic/Vernacular Jazz and the history behind it that goes back to West African traditions. Staying historically informed and athletic in his movements, J.R. enjoys digging deeper into the roots of all the disciplines he studies in order to truthfully curate a contemporary take on art.
Exploring circus and acting is essential to J.R. as a performer due to his passionate nature to stay versatile. In Circus, J.R. loves pushing the classical boundaries and inventing new apparatuses using old techniques. Unapologetically, truthfully, and staying in the moment is the best way to describe how J.R. approaches performing and living as an artist.
