Artist Biography

Solana Ayida Morante is a Queer, Trans, Indigenous-Latina/British Canadian artist practicing in Mohkinstsis. She is a painter, music producer, and musician with training from Alberta University of the Arts (2003, 2007) and Mount Royal University (2005). She also holds a BFA in music from the University of Lethbridge (2014) and a diploma in engineering technology from Lethbridge College (2019).

Since moving back to Mohkinstsis in 2023, she has been working to embrace and reflect the multiplicity of narratives arising from her physical being as an intersectional nexus of body, place, politics, and personal history.

Exploring her place in the world, Solana's practice and work is highly concerned with relationality, identity, community, politics, and ritual.
