Arts Commons' mandate includes a commitment to foster, promote, and celebrate a vibrant arts community. As the programming arm of Arts Commons, Arts Commons Presents is one manifestation of this mandate, achieved through the programming and presenting of our in-house series of public performances.

ArtsXpeditions

Experience live music and dance for itty bitty audiences and seniors alike. Our pop-up events are open, free, and as diverse as the incredible city we live in. Arts Commons Presents believes the transformative power of the arts should be available to and experienced by everyone, and we strive to be inclusive and accessible. We also believe in supporting our local artists in meaningful ways, shining a light on the talent we have right here at home, providing paid opportunities for performance and exhibition, and fostering the development of a vibrant and creative city. ArtsXpeditions is also a wonderful way to partner with our fellow resident companies and community arts organizations to support an active arts community.

BD&P World Stage

This mainstage series shines the spotlight on outstanding productions with cultural relevance, including concerts, dance, circus, musicals, and more. Travel the world, experience our collective humanity, and uncover yourself through this popular series.

Established in 2000, with the support of Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer LLP, BD&P World Stage ensures a diversity of talent, art forms, and cultural representation is available to Calgary audiences. Over 100 international touring artists have performed as part of this series, representing the amazing culture and talent of: Mali, Japan, Cuba, Quebec, Iran, Hawaii, Spain, Brazil, India, Zimbabwe, Ireland, Israel, Portugal and more.

Classic Albums Live

Relying only on the music, using what Canadian founder Craig Martin refers to as "the world's best musicians," Classic Albums Live has defined itself as a mainstay in performing arts centres across North America since its inception in 2003. This highly entertaining concert series evokes memories of our youth, whether it is reliving a stellar concert experience or recreating the feeling of picking through your milk-crated record collection, like you were mining for musical gold. Classic Albums Live performances bring fans from all walks of life, from boomers to zoomers, to experience their favourite album or band in the acoustically pristine Jack Singer Concert Hall.

Our newest concert series premiered with us in 2018. Its success can be measured by the massive smiles on the faces of our audience members and the high subscription rate. Some of the albums already featured have included: Fleetwood Mac: Rumours; The Beatles: Abbey Road; Supertramp: Crime of the Century; Led Zeppelin IV; and AC/DC: Back in Black.

National Geographic Live

Through the power of visual and verbal storytelling, National Geographic Live illuminates the wonders of our world and inspires us to protect it. Together, Arts Commons Presents and National Geographic provide the opportunity to gain perspective and understanding, leading us to empathy and hope.

Since 2011, this partnership has welcomed over 65 Explorers to share their stories with Calgary audiences from the stunning Jack Singer Concert Hall stage. When you attend a National Geographic Live event, you help further the work of National Geographic Explorers, scientists, and educators around the world.

PCL Blues

The blues is a foundational art form. Jazz, rock & roll, country and soul (to name a few) all descend or were deeply influenced by the blues tradition. As the backbone of modern music, the blues has inspired artists and led to innovation across musical genres the world over. This foundational genre also plays a pivotal role in the preservation of African American oral traditions.

PCL Blues has been a mainstay in Arts Commons Presents programming since 1998. Most performances take place in the intimate setting of the Engineered Air Theatre, with some special presentations featured in other venues, such as the Jack Singer Concert Hall or the Martha Cohen Theatre.

TD Amplify Cabarets

With each performance themed and curated by a Calgary artist with an undeniable vision and authentic voice, the TD Amplify Cabaret series amplifies the stories of those members of our creative community who have been historically underrepresented. Tailored to curious audiences hungry to experience something new and discover their next favourite, TD Amplify Cabarets provide a platform for new ideas and performances by artists ready to reveal and celebrate their true selves.

Jazz

The Jazz series is eclectic, entertaining, and essential for audiophiles and musical explorers alike. The influence of jazz on our modern pop and rock music is significant, and Arts Commons Presents aims to showcase it all, illustrating its reach and its undeniable influence. We have been presenting jazz as a series since 2013 with the goal of preserving, illuminating, entertaining, and celebrating this widely debated art form. Notable artists from past seasons include Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club, Jon Batiste and Stay Human, Gregory Porter, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Madeline Peyroux, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Dianne Reeves, and Bobby McFerrin to name a few.
