Join the orchestra and the winners of the last two Cliburn International Amateur Piano Competitions for this voyage to the exciting and exotic ports of the Mediterranean!

Beginning with Ibert’s colourful and evocative Escales (Ports of Call), this concert takes us to Rome and Palermo, Tunis and Nefta, Valencia, and Egypt. We welcome two of the world’s most brilliant amateur pianists – our good friend and periodontist, the incomparable Thomas Yu, performing the work with which he captured first prize in the 2016 Cliburn International Amateur Piano Competition, along side the extremely talented Jon Lee, who won the most recent competition in 2022.

The concert closes with one of the most spectacular works in the repertoire, Respighi’s Pines of Rome!

Featuring:

Thomas Yu, pianist - Saint-Saëns Piano Concerto No. 5 “Egyptian”

Jon Lee, pianist - Ravel Piano Concerto in G Major
