ARTIST STATEMENT
I am 3rd generation carver, teaching the 4th; as Urban Inuvialuk I feel the only way I can teach my girls about our culture is through my artwork. I tell them stories and show them what Arctic wildlife is and how traditional hunting was like in the past. How we must keep this knowledge and keep teaching people so that we dont lose it. When I work with materials, I look for different styles they can compliment eachother. Some antlers are used as water, and hunters are on a kayak at one end, and a beluga on the other. That creates a scene of how we used to hunt for our food, and the courage it takes to hunt. Some jewelry I make comes from the natural shape and style the material already has. It is very important that my daughters know where they come from and understand the importance of their culture so I will keep teaching and showing them through my artwork

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:
Born and raised in the Hamlet of Tuktoyaktuk in the Northwest Territories, Priscilla is first born of Maryanne Taylor-Reid. She started growing her knowledge and abilities to create Inuvialuit art at the age of 3 when her Uncle Derrald gave her a carving to sand and polish. Her talent was passed down from her late Daduck (Grandfather) Bobby Taylor Pokiak to her Mom, Aunts, Uncles and relatives. Her style of carving is unique, yet it evolves from her views and experience of Inuvialuit traditions and beliefs including hunting and fishing, travelling and watching wild life in the Arctic.
