Are the galleries in Arts Commons available for rent?

Thank you for your interest in the Galleries of Arts Commons. We do not take bookings for our galleries as they are programmed through the Arts Commons engagement programs TD Incubator and RBC Emerging Visual Artists Program.

We take submissions annually; more details are in here: https://www.artscommons.ca/learn-and-engage/connects/rbc-emerging-artist-program

How much will it cost to hold an event at Arts Commons?

Every event is unique and we are dedicated to providing a personalized planning experience, and a memorable event to fit your budget. Please download our General Information Package or speak with one of our Event Advisors to get a tailored estimate.

How far in advance should I book my event?

We recommend booking as far in advance as possible. The books open on October 1st for the following season (rather than the current). Dates for our larger venues, especially the Jack Singer Concert Hall, are in high demand and are usually booked approximately six months in advance. For our other venues, including the Jack Singer Lobby and the Engineered Air Theatre, we recommend booking 1-3 months in advance. If you’re not quite ready to confirm your dates, consider placing a hold.

What is a hold?

A hold is an expression of interest for a date in a particular venue, that is not confirmed yet. First, second or third holds are available. The first hold goes to the client who was first to show interest and therefore has the first right of refusal. The second hold goes to the client who was second to show interest and has the second right of refusal, etc.

You may place a hold on a maximum of three dates for any one event. Due to high demand, we ask that you release any holds you decide against as soon as possible.

How do I challenge another group for a date?

If you have a second or third hold on a date and decide that you wish to hold your event on one of those dates, you can challenge the group that has first and/or second hold. You will be asked to submit a deposit to Arts Commons, after which we will ask the group with the first and/or second hold to either confirm or release the date within two business days. If they confirm the date, your deposit will be returned. If they release the date, your deposit will be applied to your contract and you will be confirmed for your preferred date.

How do I confirm a date?

Simply let us know that you would like to confirm and then provide a deposit. Until this process is complete, the date is open to challenge.

What choices of catering and beverage service do I have?

Arts Commons works with a range of preferred caterers who are familiar with our environment and regulations, allowing them to provide a superior level of service and options to suit almost any requirement or budget.

Bar service for all events is provided by Arts Commons. Our bar staff can help you create a signature cocktail to mark your event. Please give two-weeks’ notice for us to bring in ingredients for special drink requests.

Due to Alberta Health Services and Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis regulations, we cannot allow you to bring in your own liquor products.

Can I tour the venue before my event?

We will gladly give you a tour of any venue, answer your questions, and discuss how to make your event truly memorable. Simply reach out to one of our Event Advisors to set up a date and time that is convenient for you.

Do I require a technician for my event?

A technical crew is required for all events in the Jack Singer Concert Hall. For events in our other venues we can advise you based on your needs, and if necessary, provide a quote for technical services.

Are there any restrictions on decorating my chosen venue?

We want your event to be tailored to your vision, so we are very flexible about decoration. There are, however, some restrictions, including: only tea-lights are allowed as candles; confetti, rice, or glitter are not allowedsigns may not be hung on the outside of our historic building.
