Artist Statement for Etuaptmumk

Dreaming in Two Worlds As a Cree Métis/Scottish artist, my work explores identity, tradition, and transformation through the lens of Two-Eyed Seeing; a concept that is at the very core of who I am. This collection of dream catchers reflects my journey—balancing both sides of my heritage and embracing innovation. Using traditional materials like leather, sinew, and carved bone to honor my Indigenous roots, alongside tartan and lace for my Scottish ancestry, each piece embodies a personal connection to my heritage. I also incorporate non-traditional materials, including metals, gears, repurposed jewelry, and robotics components sourced from IndigiSTEAM, symbolizing progress, innovation, technology and sustainability. In creating this collection, I seek to weave together past and future, embracing different perspectives and honoring the dynamic interplay of tradition and progress.
