Bella Ríos

Artist Biography
Bella Ríos is a Canadian multidisciplinary artist, musician, and independent researcher of languages and cross-cultural intersections. Born in Calgary, her parents are Cuban and Salvadorian of mixed Indigenous, African, and Judeo-Sephardic descent. Drawing influence by her rich cultural heritage and travel experiences, Ríos blends ancient and contemporary musical elements in a repertoire spanning over eight languages including English, Spanish, Arabic, Hebrew, Ladino and Yoruba. Bella Ríos collaborates with members of her family, renowned Cuban musicians and academic scholars. In 2020, she founded the Katibala Music Project, a musical and cultural heritage project. She has also worked alongside several local and international artists, featuring in performances across Canada, Cuba, Morocco, El Salvador, Sint-Maarten, the U.K, and the U.S.
