Aisha Blackface
Artist Statement for Etuaptmumk
I have created four paintings alongside my younger sister, Jasmine, inspired by the Blackfoot Tipi—Niitoy’yiss teachings, passed down from my brother Brendon and IndigeSTEAM workshops. Family connection is at the core of my Two-Eyed Seeing, shaping the way I approach both life and art.
Art is a powerful form of self-expression—whether through singing, dancing, or creating—and it provides a meaningful way to process emotions. Everyone should feel free to express themselves in ways that resonate with them.
Two-Eyed Seeing is essential. Growing up disconnected from my culture was challenging, but I am now on a journey to reconnect, learning little by little. Through my paintings, I hope to inspire others to explore and embrace their heritage, reminding them that it is never too late to begin.
