ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:
Marvin Kee is known as music artist ‘the fly’ here in Calgary, Ab. He is a musician whose career spawned in the late 80s playing guitar with a smashing punk funk band called The Highrollers for nine years which reached national success. He then moved on to play bass with an outfit called Los Morenos for twenty years touring and garnishing the country with delightful ethereal Latin sounds and hard-hitting rhumba. He now leads his own flamenco group La Mosca as well as his own R&B funk and soul project, Flytrap. Dedicated to the Calgary music scene, Kee has managed to merge himself with several other local bands of various music genres in the city: Sargeant & Comrade, The Torchettes, punk rock band The Ex-boyfriends, Deicha & The Vududes, hip hop act Blist, new wavers Venetian Blinds, rock and rollers Web of Spider, Beastie Boys tribute: Gratitude and spoken word artist Xam Eitsirhc. He has also spent six years as a bassist in the Indigenous production/collective in Calgary called Making Treaty 7 which is a play that uses contemporary arts and performance to tell inspiring stories that educate, entertain, and forge relationships across cultures and generations.  Not only does Kee perform in several bands in the city but has also hosted a variety of music events under “the fly presents…” exhibiting Calgary’s local live music scene in various live music establishments around the city such as Vicious Circle, Marquee, Distillery and Without Papers. In 2016 Kee was ‘White-hatted’ for his contribution to the music culture of the City of Calgary.
