How much will it cost to hold an event at Arts Commons?

Every event is unique. You can search our Resource page to find information on some of our prices and services, but the most accurate way for us to give you an estimate is for you to contact us. We’ll respond to you as soon as possible but at least within 2 business days.

How far in advance should I book my date(s)?

Timing depends on the venue. If you’re looking to book the Jack Singer Concert Hall, we recommend booking a date as soon as possible. The books open on October 1st for the upcoming season. It’s best to get requests in at that time if you’re looking for a specific date or weekend. Most dates are booked around 6 months prior. For our other fabulous venues, including the Jack Singer Lobby and the Engineered Air Theatre, we’d recommend booking 1-3 months prior.

We know that it is hard sometimes to confirm a booking far in advance. Therefore you can always place a hold on a venue until you are ready to confirm.

What exactly is a hold?

A hold is an expression of interest for a date in a particular venue, but that is not confirmed yet. You can get a first, second or third hold; the first hold is the client who was the first to show interest and therefore has the first right of refusal, the second hold being the client who was second to show interest and has second right of refusal, etc.

To ensure that everyone gets a chance to book our spaces, you can place a hold on a maximum of 3 dates for any one event or artist. Due to high demand, we ask that you release any holds you don’t need as soon as possible so that the dates can be used by others.

If you really want a particular date but do not have the first hold for that date you can always challenge the other holds.

How do I challenge another group for a date?

If you have a second or third hold on a date and decide that you really want your event to happen on that date, you can challenge the group that has first and/or second hold. You will be asked to submit a deposit to Arts Commons, after which we will ask the group with the first and/or second hold to either confirm or release the date within 2 business days. If they confirm the date, your deposit will be returned. If they release the date, your deposit will be applied to your contract and your date is booked for you!

How do I confirm a date?

Simply let us know that you would like to confirm your date and we will work with you to create, including a confirmation deposit. Until this process is complete, the date is open to challenge.

What choices of catering and beverage service do I have?

Arts Commons works with preferred caterers — these are businesses who are familiar with our environment and regulations, so they’re able to provide a superior level of service and knowledge and can cater to any budget. As our client, you are able to choose from any of our preferred caterers for your event.

Bar service is provided by Arts Commons for all of our events. Our bar staff can help you create the right signature cocktail for your event and order product for special drink requests with two weeks’ notice.

Due to Alberta Health Service regulations and Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission regulations, we cannot allow you to bring in your own products for your event.

Can I come in for a tour of the venue before my event?

You are always more than welcome to book a tour of your venue of choice! We know how essential it is to have a site visit and we will gladly show you around and talk about the possibilities of our venues for your event and to answer all of your questions.

Do I require a technician for my event?

In the Jack Singer Concert Hall, you will always require a technical crew to be present. For events in the Engineered Air Theatre or Jack Singer Lobby, you may or may not need a technician—depending on the technical needs for your event. For details regarding when a tech is required (or needed), please contact us with your request; we can advise you and, if necessary, provide a quote for technical services.

Are there any decorating restrictions?

We want your event to be as unique and tailored to your vision as possible! We are very flexible in what we allow in our venues for decorating but, as in any venue, there are a few restrictions:
We will only allow tea-lights as candles and we do not allow any confetti, rice or glitter in our venues. Because we are a historical building, no signs may be hung on the outside of the building— nor can we alter certain things inside.
