Alex MacWilliam

Alex is a partner and the leader of the Canada Region Environment and Climate Change Practice Group at the global law firm Dentons LLP. He advises Canadian and international clients on all legal issues relating to the environment and is widely regarded as a leading environmental law practitioner. From 2015 to 2020 Alex was the Chair of the Alberta Environmental Appeals Board.  Alex has extensive experience and training in mediation and is a member of the Canadian Centre for Environmental Arbitration and Mediation.

An avid supporter of the arts sector, Alex was a member of the Board of Directors of The Calgary International Film Festival (2006-2013) and is a current member and Past-President of the Board of Directors of Alberta Theatre Projects. Alex has been a Leader of the United Way of Calgary and Area for many years and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Bridgeland Riverside Community Association. Alex holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Calgary and an LL.B. from the University of British Columbia. Alex has served on the Arts Commons Board of Directors since 2013.
