Community Engagement Specialist

Arts Commons is seeking a unique talent for the NEW position of Community Engagement Specialist, as we look to diversify the communities we engage with.

 

The Community Engagement Specialist will work within the programming department (Arts Commons Presents) to provide creative connections and opportunities for community arts and culture partners.  This one-of-a-kind opportunity is best suited for candidates who believe deeply in our vision of “a creative and compassionate society, inspired though the arts”.  The position will champion diversity and inclusivity and will facilitate a variety of events and producing partnerships within an established strategic and artistic direction.  You are the candidate we are looking for if you love being culturally and socially aware, have a passion for facilitating creative expression and are seeking a challenging and fulfilling career in the arts. You understand that great arts and culture is supported by amazing administrators and your combined experience thus far is ready for the opportunity to shine. 

 

 Reporting to the Director of Programming, primary responsibilities will include: 

  • Developing and executing new and existing engagement programs, projects and productions 
  • Cultivating and administrating relationships with creative and cultural partners  
  • Accurately capturing partner projects information and requirements 
  • Carrying out all administrative tasks related to Community Engagement including fiscal and contractual obligations and workflow 
  • Accurately tracking, measuring and reporting on progress  
  • Working closely with department colleagues and projects in presenting, arts learning and visual and media arts 
  • Working closely with colleagues in  venue and event management, marketing and communications, and development and external relations

  

Applicants should have a degree or diploma in the Performing Arts or an industry related field, and a minimum 3-5 years’ experience in arts and/or cultural administration, programming and working with community partners. Applicants require experience in event or production planning, a varied knowledge of the Calgary cultural scene as well as strong administrative and customer service skills. Applicants should also be comfortable working in an office environment. Experience with events, project coordination or stage/production management are all assets. Other desired skills and qualifications include:  

 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to juggle competing priorities 
  • Excellent internal and external customer service skills 
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft office programs, workflow tools and creation of proposals and reports
  • Intermediate financial knowledge, the ability to budget and reconcile accurately, track, report, consolidate, analyze and use accounting systems and software 
  • Understanding of the implications of new information for both current and future scenarios 
  • Flexible and adaptable with the insight and ability to adjust when needed 
  • Able to work on the go, moving around within office/venue environments with occasional extended hours days  
  • Bilingual or multi-lingual is an asset
  • Driver’s license and own vehicle is an asset

 

This position has a 40-hour work-week and will require programmatic evening and weekend work. A competitive compensation package, including extended health benefits, is offered.
