Lightbox Studio: Sled Island Art by Studio C
Decade of Diversity
Lightbox Studio (Beside the Martha Cohen Theatre)
Dates: June 8 - 29, 2015
In collaboration with Sled Island, Arts Commons (formerly EPCOR CENTRE for the Performing Arts) features the work of Studio C in the Lightbox Studio from June 8 – 29, 2015 in an exhibit entitled Decade of Diversity.
During the month of June, in participation with Sled Island Music and Arts Festival, Studio C will be creating a collaborative installation project that creates shared experiences that challenge preconceived ideas, stereotypes, and barriers to inclusive communities and workplaces. Decade of Diversity encourages people to move within the space, interacting with both the art and artists.
A recent winner of the SANDSTONE City Builder Award, Studio C has a vision of supporting minority artists to realize their human potential. Studio C accomplishes this through the facilitation of workshops, exhibitions, and collaborative experiences in the Calgary creative community.
Since 2005, Studio C’s art team has been building inclusive and diverse communities through community collaborations, gallery exhibitions, and public art classes. Studio C fulfills its vision of art accessible to all by supporting artists with disabilities, mental health barriers, Canadian newcomers, children, seniors, and youth at risk.
All Studio C staff are educated, professional, and practicing artists in Calgary. Members of the team use their artistic talents and expertise for strong social impact.
Studio C contributes to Calgary’s cultural legacy as a diverse and inclusive city, and recently won the CCVO Innovation award and the SANDSTONE City-builder award.
