Don't Think You Knew You Were In This Song
Lightbox Studio (Beside the Martha Cohen Theatre)
Dates: March 13 to May 24, 2015
Artist Reception: Thursday, May 14 from 5 – 8 pm, Upper Centre Court
Bringing a new perspective to comic art, Lightbox Studio at Arts Commons (formerly EPCOR CENTRE for the Performing Arts) presents Jillian Fleck and her three-dimensional comic book inspired installation, Don’t Think You Knew You Were In This Song.
Created from lightweight, scavenged or recycled papers, and other refuse material, Fleck’s installation will feature cut out scenes, cast shadows, and figures within figures that tell a different story depending on where you stand as the viewer. These silhouette stories will progressively cover the ceilings and walls of the Lightbox Studio space during Jillian Fleck’s residency.
A purveyor of wit, misery, and dark humour, local Calgary comic artist Jillian Fleck received her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Alberta College of Art and Design. Her current projects include a graphic novel, Lake Jehovah, and a webcomic entitled Bad Thoughtz.
