Coming to the Window Galleries in Arts Commons is a unique joint exhibition from Donna Miller and Philip Kanwischer beginning June 10. Through painting and photography, the two artists interpret the spiritual power of natural landscapes and narratives, resulting in new perspectives in Canadian landscapes.
Donna Miller’s Mountain High is inspired by her Rocky Mountain hikes back packing. Using photographs from her hikes, she sketches and then energetically paints large, colourful, and expressive acrylic paintings in an attempt to communicate her interpretation of the land and emotionally connect the spirituality of that experience to her viewers.
Philip Kanwisher’s Inhospitably ours uses photography to explore the relationship between humans, animals, and the environment, creating commentaries and narratives surrounding habitat loss, human intervention, and concepts of conservation. His work also has connotations of documentary, which he plays off with the conceptually rooted and composite quality of his images to challenge the viewer.
