Arts Commons Presents
The Ledge Gallery
Shared Singularity by Natural Real Supreme
A bright and colourful garden oasis.
Location: The Ledge Gallery (+15 level of Centre Court)
Dates: June 6 to August 29, 2016
Artist Reception: Happenings #5 in Upper Centre Court of Arts Commons on Thursday, August 11 2016 from 6-9pm
Beginning June 6th, Arts Commons Presents Shared Singularity, a bright and colourful garden oasis in The Ledge Gallery from Calgary’s Natural Real Supreme.
In looking to break down ideas around the natural and artificial, artists Sara Rennie and Sean Teal will spend their residency constructing and converting the gallery space into a summer rooftop patio intended for barbecues, pool parties, and gatherings. With a playful, spontaneous aesthetic, the space will be complete with sod, found sculptures, fake plants, water features, and a large sun made up of patio lights.
“Both the natural and artificial are constructions,” says the group. “Our garden highlights the falsehood of these ideas and aims to break down the differentiation between the two.”
The work will be accompanied by a series of video performances within the garden space, which will be chosen, edited, and displayed at the end of the residency amongst the sculptures and objects.
Natural Real Supreme is a collaborative duo formed by Sara Rennie and Sean Teal. The collaboration was formed in 2013 and is based in Calgary, Alberta. They work primarily with sculpture, installation, and video focusing on ideas surrounding the natural and artificial. Both Sara And Sean Graduated in 2015 from The Alberta College Of Art + Design with a BFA in Drawing. Currently Natural Real Supreme is focusing on becoming a singular form.
