Arts Commons Presents
Ledge Gallery: Brianna Strong and Mark Limacher
The Ledge Gallery (+15 level of Centre Court)
Dates: September 4 to November 27, 2015
Artist Reception: Thursday, November 19 from 6 – 9 pm, Upper Centre Court
In a new and unique collaboration, composer Mark Limacher and visual artist Brianna Strong come together to create an art installation in the Ledge Gallery that will continue to grow and evolve throughout their residency at Arts Commons from September 4 - November 27, 2015.
Titled encuentro, the piece will be made up primarily of visual material that will exist in a state of flux until the exhibit is complete at the end of Limacher and Strong’s residency. The public is encouraged to stop by and interact with both of the artists during their studio hours.
“Our intention and our commitment is to articulate a novel creative process that can infect other systems of thinking and ways of producing. Inevitably, inexplicably and unimaginably an accumulation of process-residue will surface. This will function as both compelling visual material and the groundwork for our manifesto,” says Brianna Strong and Mark Limacher.

Mark Limacher is a Composer-Pianist currently based in Calgary, Canada. He is a graduate of New School University in New York City, and has served as apprentice to composer Bunita Marcus in Brooklyn, NY. As a composer he has written extensively for piano, solo instruments, and chamber ensembles, being particularly drawn to small gestures, soft dynamics, and delicately constructed aural textures. His music explores ideas such as “found music”, patterns, silence/waiting, objects and grids. As a pianist he has performed with ensembles such as the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Theater Calgary, and the Calgary Creative Arts Ensemble.
Brianna Strong is a drawer living and working in Calgary, Alberta. She graduated from the Alberta College of Art + Design in 2012 and has exhibited locally and nationally. She is primarily interested in how a reduced visual language of dots and lines can be extended into an autonomous logic. Brianna approaches the art object as a transmission device and the collaborative process as an interface for systems of analysis and unknowable inquiry. She observes these alignments as critical mechanisms in establishing an intercourse instead of simply solitary discourse.
